We have taken our radio equipment and literally walked through Memphis (where we visited Elvis Presley’s home Graceland, Sun Studios, and Stax Records), the Grand Canyon (where we took the Grand Canyon Railway and were part of a train “robbery”), rode Jeeps in the Arizona Desert, cooked Italian food at Forlini’s and enjoyed the highly talented comics from the Long Island Comedy Festival.
We have interviewed well known musicians such as Denny Laine, Kasim Sultan (Utopia, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts) and members from Styx, the Gin Blossoms, the Spin Doctors. Our broadcasts from My Father’s Place at the Roslyn Hotel include Joe Refano (the Monkees, Herman’s Hermits and the Liverpool Shuffle.) Kate Taylor, and Jeremy Clyde Most importantly, music insiders and experts such as Kevin Howlett of the BBC (Beatles Archivist), Monte Melnick (Ramone’s Tour Manager), Cousin Brucie, and Denis McNamara (WLIR) have shared great stories with our listeners.
One crazy night Mike “Eppy” Epstein played all the music that WLIR (92.7 FM) would play today if it was still on the air.
We cover numerous shows regularly held in New York City such as Book Expo, The Restaurant Show, Fancy Food Show and Legal Tech.
Our listeners have suggested and introduced great guests. That’s how we met Milton Pike who shared original World War II documents signed by Douglas A. MacArthur and Chester Nimitz. That’s also how we were able to interview the Bronx Wanderers – one of the most fun shows to date (2 hours).
Finally, we are most proud of our coverage of Fleet Week. We have reported from the USS Arlington (LPD-24), USS Bataan (LHD-5), USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) while at sea. We give special thanks to the United States Navy for special access to flight operations, the Command Staff, the crews, and public affairs officials. (Check out our amazing videos.) On the USS Arlington we talked with the captain on the night bridge, watched the “Air Boss” in action and witnessed the launch and recovery of an LCAC from the well deck.
